Apple is likely to announce the date of the iPhone 12 event this week

Apple could announce the date of its iPhone 12 event as early as this week, as suggested From Bloomberg Mark Gurman on Twitter. At the event, Apple is expected to announce the new Apple Watch hardware and provide details on the release schedule for iOS 14 and watchOS 7 alongside the new iPhone.

Gurman’s tweet follows a Jon Prosser post, who claims that Apple has a press release scheduled for Tuesday, September 8 at 9am ET / 6am PT. Today’s tweet from Prosser does not make any specific claims on what Apple might announce in this press release, but previously stated that a new iPad and the Apple Watch would be released the week of September 7.

Gurman’s tweet refutes the idea that Apple’s hardware will arrive this week, and instead suggests that an announcement of the iPhone 12 and Apple Watch online event is more likely.

Generally, Apple announces and sends out invitations to an iPhone event approximately two weeks before the event’s scheduled date. If Apple announces the iPhone 12 event on September 8, that would mean that the actual event could take place around September 22.

However, what is important to note is that the iPhone 12 event will almost certainly be completely virtual, just like WWDC 2020. This means that Apple doesn’t necessarily have to give as much wait time as usual because members of the press it is not necessary to travel to Cupertino.

Even if the iPhone 12 event takes place in September as usual, we already know that the iPhone 12 itself won’t launch until October at the earliest. Along with the iPhone 12, Apple is expected to announce new Apple Watch hardware. Other rumors have circulated suggesting a new iPad, a new Apple TV, a smaller HomePod, AirTags, and over-the-ear headphones.
