In October 2018, WhatsApp spotted a new feature called ‘Vacation Mode’ in testing, and it was later renamed to Ignore Archived Chats. This feature could allow users to mute archived chats that would remain archived until the user activates them. WABetaInfo later than this feature was archived for unknown reasons. However, now, WABetaInfo has again reported that this feature is back, and a leak suggests that WhatsApp could launch it soon.
According to the WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is on the way to implement vacation mode with various changes and a new form. In the messenger, the vacation mode will have a separate and dedicated section that will give users various options to choose different parameters.
If the user chooses to enable the feature, all archived chats will be moved to the top of the chats. When the user taps this cell and when Archived Chats appear, the user will see a new button for ‘Notifications’.
When the user enters the ‘Notifications’ option, they will be presented with two more options from which anyone can choose. Those two options will be ‘Notify new messages’ and ‘Automatically hide inactive chats’.
Therefore, if the user chooses to disable the ‘Notify new messages’ option, they will have the vacation mode activated and the archived messages will continue in the archived chats when the user receives new messages. This will help many users who have joined various groups but are no longer interested in them, but still want them to have these groups somewhere in the app, so that they can occasionally access them based on their preferences.
If the user chooses the second option to automatically hide the inactive chats, it will basically be an extension of the vacation mode and will configure the messenger in such a way that a chat older than six months will be automatically archived.
Currently, WhatsApp allows users to archive their chats, but when a new message arrives, a notification appears informing the user about the latest message. It seems that vacation mode will give users the ability to use different options to keep their chats archived quietly even if a new message arrives.
This feature has been detected by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp for Android beta v2.20.199.8, which means that this feature is not present for users who have the current beta version of WhatsApp. It is not yet known when this feature will finally come out to the masses on the stable channel, and it may not be a breakthrough, but the update may help many people who worry about constant notifications of messages on their WhatsApp messengers.
