The Honor Watch ES was announced yesterday at IFA 2020. Many of you already know that this is the Honor version of the Huawei Watch Fit, which was released about a week earlier. However, while both watches are almost identical and also share several characteristics, there is a key difference between them that you should be aware of in case you plan to buy either one.
While one of the visual differences between the Huawei Watch Fit and the Honor Watch ES includes a red accent on the latter’s home button, a more important difference is under the hood.
This key difference is the GPS. The Huawei Watch Fit has built-in GPS, which is important for outdoor runs. However, the cheaper Honor Watch ES has GPS attached. What this means is that the Honor watch itself must connect to your phone to obtain location data.
The lack of GPS on the Honor Watch ES should explain why it costs less at € 99.99 than the Huawei Watch Fit which launched for AED 399 and has been reported to cost € 119 when it lands in Europe.
If having a built-in GPS is a must for you, you may want to purchase the Huawei Watch Fit. But if you don’t mind taking your phone with you while you run, you can save some money with the Honor watch.
Another difference that you should know is the amount of supported workouts. The Honor Watch ES supports 10 professional training modes and 85 custom training modes for a total of 95, while the Huawei Watch Fit has 11 professional training modes and 85 custom training modes for a total of 96 training modes. Unfortunately, neither Huawei nor Honor have provided a list of supported professional modes, so we cannot narrow down the missing sports mode.
Both smartwatches have built-in storage to store files that you can listen to while exercising. Both also have an SpO2 monitor, stress measurement, animated training courses, and can track menstrual cycles.
