In a year of two NBA 2K releases and a global pandemic, the minor of the iterations is light on new features and visual updates. However, there are a number of improved player representations in the game on various teams.
One of the first you’ll recognize is Damian Lillard, the standard edition cover athlete for PS4 and Xbox One. You can see Lillard’s hair growth and perhaps a few more tattoos in the image above.
Take a look at the video from Kumo Games below:
Next-Gen Standard Edition (PS5 and Xbox Series X) cover athlete Zion Williamson also received a necessary update for this year’s version. It wasn’t one of the worst in the game before, but without question, the rendering in the game is much more accurate.
Other notable players featured in the video and updated in the game are Cleveland Cavaliers Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Larry Nance Jr., and Collin Sexton. Some of the legends also have new versions, but those did not appear in the video.
In particular, there is a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar remake of one aspect of his tenure with the LA Lakers.
Similarly, one of Abdul-Jabbar’s teammates and Hall of Famer Magic Johnson also received a second updated version. The rest are distributed relatively thin throughout the list, which you can see in its entirety here.–including WNBA teams.
While NBA 2K21 on current-gen consoles looks great, awesome moments are expected to come when next-gen renders are revealed. At this point, we’ve only seen Williamson in a PS4 trailer, but that was enough to whet us an appetite for an extended look.
If that’s really what’s on the way in a matter of months, everyone who can get their hands on the exclusive version of NBA 2K21 will be jumping for joy.
