Sudan’s Security and Defense Council declared a state of national emergency for three months due to floods that killed 99 people this year and designated Sudan as a natural disaster area, according to a report by state news agency SUNA on Saturday. early.

Sudan’s Minister of Labor and Social Development said that in addition to the deaths, this year’s floods have injured 46 people, damaged more than half a million people and caused the total and partial collapse of more than 100,000 homes, according to SUNA. .

This year’s flood and rain rates broke the records set during the years 1946 and 1988, with expectations that the indicators will continue to rise, added Minister Lena el-Sheikh.

The council also announced the formation of a supreme committee headed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development to deal with the ramifications of the floods by the fall of 2020, SUNA said.
