DJ Khaled and Drake brought in a pop star to star in their latest collaboration, aptly titled “Popstar.”
The eight-minute video begins with the two artists discussing the logistics of shooting the video while separated amid the pandemic, before Drake decides to ask for a favor. The scene changes and Justin Bieber, who is presumably the rapper’s solution to his problem, takes over.
The video then follows Bieber, who is also referenced in the lyrics, as he moves through a party at the mansion during the day, interacting with guests and alternating colorful outfits as the day progresses.
Other familiar faces appear as well, from wife Hailey Bieber to a host of influential people, including King Bach. Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun also appears when his name appears on the track bars.
When the song ends, a sketch among the Biebers suggests that the party was a dream. As the couple embark on a hike, Justin Bieber receives a call from Drake and the credits roll.
The video garnered more than 3 million views in its first 10 hours. The track itself is scheduled to appear on DJ Khaled’s upcoming album “Khaled Khaled,” which has no release date yet. The song was released in July along with another collaboration with Drake titled “Greece”. Both songs have over 90 million streams on Spotify alone.
Before the video was released, DJ Khaled took to Twitter to provoke a “Big surprise. “Only after the release of the video did he share that Bieber would star alongside Drake and him.
“Popstar” is directed by Director X.
