Earth’s mightiest heroes occupy a central place in Marvel Avengers, the new loot-based action-adventure game from tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix. The game gives fans control of several of Marvel’s greatest heroes as they take on an evil tech corporation known as Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM), who have supplanted the superheroes with their own army of robots. Disbanded after a terrible disaster that claimed the life of Captain America, the heroes have to find a way to band together again to end this new threat to the world and bring the age of heroes back to the Marvel universe.
Marvel Avengers features a diverse cast of heroes and villains, including cult favorite villain George Tarleton, better known as the superhuman and ugly force of nature MODOK. During your adventure, you will also meet former Ant-Man Hank Pym, run with the Abomination, face Taskmaster, be interviewed by Marvel’s best TV reporter Phil Sheldon, join SHIELD commander Maria Hill, and will frustrate Monica Rappaccini. Evil experiments with terrigen gas and gamma radiation.
This great cast of characters, yes, Nick Fury is here too! – makes the Crystal Dynamics version of the Marvel universe feel complete and vivid. It’s clear there is a lot of history between these characters, as evidenced by the comics tied to the game’s prelude, and it’s fun to see all of these Marvel characters interacting with each other throughout the story campaign.
With quite a few playable characters to choose from at launch, here’s a rundown of the game’s heroes, a bit about their backstory in the game’s universe, and the types of powers and abilities you can expect from them:
