Skull girls Developer Lab Zero laid off the rest of its staff shortly after many team members left the studio due to problems with owner Mike Zaimont.
According to Kotaku, approximately 11 developers remained at Lab Zero following the voluntary exodus, but were informed on August 25 that the studio no longer had the funds to fund payroll.
“We are exploring all financing options in hopes of getting those team members back, but right now that is the reality,” reads a part of Zaimont’s full statement released by Kotaku.
Indivisible cCreative Director Mariel Cartwright, a voluntary departure from Lab Zero, started sell sketchbooks to raise money for the affected Lab Zero earlier this week, prompting Jonathan Kim, an artist among last week’s volunteer outings, to reveal via tweet that the remaining staff at Lab Zero had been laid off (apparently without compensation).
Several prominent developers, including Kim and Cartwright, released statements last week announcing their departure from the studio and blaming what they described as problematic behavior and lack of responsibility on Zaimont’s part.
Shortly after those outings, Skull girls IP Holder Autumn Games and Skull girls Hidden Variable mobile developer Announced that they would no longer work with Lab Zero over the allegations, but that they would continue to support the games through cooperation with outgoing Lab Zero members.
