Headphone wireless technology has its costs. In our current list of the 10 best wireless headphones, all but one cost more than $ 100.
TCL hopes to break that list, without costing you a penny in the process. The electronics maker just introduced its MoveAudio S200 true wireless earbuds, and the first thing you’ll notice about these earbuds is their low price. TCL plans to sell them for € 99 when they ship globally later this month.
It’s unclear whether TCL plans to adjust that cost so that the US market keeps the price below $ 100. (A price of € 99 equals $ 117 at the current conversion rate.) Even if the price is a direct conversion of € 99, the MoveAudio S200 headphones would still be quite inexpensive compared to the competition. To put the difference in context, a pair of AirPods starts at € 179 or $ 159 in the US.
TCL believes that the MoveAudio S200 headphones are more than just a low price tag. The headphones feature ENC noise reduction designed to filter out background sound. When making phone calls, you can use four built-in microphones that are based on beamforming technology to perfect your voice.
Battery life can be one area where the MoveAudio S200 struggles to match the higher-priced competition. TCL promises 3.5 hours of battery life from a single use for the MoveAudio S200, which is below the 5 hours that AirPods can provide. However, the MoveAudio S200’s charging case can increase the battery life to 23 hours.
Visually, there’s not much that separates the MoveAudio S200 from many wireless earphones, particularly the new OnePlus Buds that came out earlier this summer. You get a round earphone with a cylinder hanging down. TCL says its earbuds are IP54 rated to protect against dust, water, and sweat, while the super ellipse design is supposed to provide a comfortable fit.
You will be able to choose the MoveAudio S200 in black, white and teal, and the latter color will look particularly attractive. We’ll see if the sound quality is as crisp as that teal when we get a chance to test drive the MoveAudio S200 later this fall.
