(Pocket-lint): The next generation of Google’s Chromecast line of TV streaming devices is one of those releases that won’t come as much of a surprise when it’s finally announced (think Google’s Pixel 4A for an equally amazing introduction).
Sabrina, the new streaming dongle, is surely on the way, but a new wave of leaks has brought us an important new line of information: its price. As is common when retailers get their hands on tech stocks, or even get the details of new devices ahead of time, the entries appear in their device database.
Here’s how the 9to5Google team got hold of what is apparently a listing from the Home Depot pricing system, with a $ 49.99 price tag attached to a few different colors of the Sabrina transmitter.
It’s a price that would put the new Chromecast at the same price as an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Roku Streaming Stick +, and it would significantly lower the price of the first Chromecast Ultra.
The listings also seem to confirm that “Sabrina” will be a full part of the device name, rather than just an internal codename.
After the Home Depot price was discovered, DroidLife found a similar listing on Walmart’s website, with a price $ 10 higher, followed by AndroidPolice find the same price listed internally at Target.
That means it’s unclear whether the streamer will cost $ 50 or $ 60, although the difference isn’t huge. Either way, it suggests that the device is not far off at this stage, so we expect an announcement and launch very soon. However, in this era of procrastination and delay, don’t trust that it will be immediate!
