As much as we would all love to have the latest and greatest high-performance flagship smartphone, the high prices of many of those devices put them out of reach for many. Conventional devices are significantly more affordable, but they tend not to offer as much overall performance, at least according to many popular benchmarks. Although the measured performance is not quantifiably that robust, the user experience for the vast majority of everyday use cases can be very good on a conventional device. However, graphically intense mobile gaming is often an area where those same mainstream devices clearly lag behind their more powerful counterparts. However, today’s news from Qualcomm should give a significant boost in performance to the upcoming more mainstream mobile devices.
A few hours ago, Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon 732G mobile platform. As the name suggests, the 732G is an iteration of the existing Snapdragon 730G. However, the new Snapdragon 732G has been further optimized to offer more CPU, GPU and AI computing performance.
“Snapdragon 732G will deliver a powerful gaming experience, sophisticated artificial intelligence on the device, and superior performance.” said Kedar Kondap, vice president of product management for Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We are excited to be working with POCO on the new POCO smartphone powered by the globally enhanced Snapdragon 732G.”
The Snapdragon 732G is manufactured using an 8nm process and is powered by Qualcomm’s fourth-generation Qualcomm AI engine, along with higher-frequency CPU and GPU cores. The Qualcomm Kryo 470 CPU on the chip can scale up to frequencies as high as 2.3GHz, versus 2.2GHz on the 730G. And the integrated Qualcomm Adreno 618 GPU delivers 15% higher performance in graphics rendering workloads.
The first out-door partner to take advantage of the Snapdragon 732G mobile platform is POCO. “We are very excited about the upcoming POCO smartphone and our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies that enabled us to create the first device on the market with the latest Snapdragon 732G mobile platform.” said Sam Jiang, POCO Global Product Manager. “We believe the device will set a new benchmark in the mid-range category, completely redefining the relationship between the price of a phone and its capabilities.”
The actual POCO device brand that will be powered by the Snapdragon 732G was not revealed, but it will likely be the POCO X3 NFC. A few hours after Qualcomm’s announcement, POCO Twitter account posted the image above. The full scoop on the POCO X3 NFC will be released on September 7.
