Six new faces for Uganda U17 women’s team for Cameroon qualifier

Six new faces have been added to the provisional squad of the U-17 U-17 women’s team in Uganda in preparation for qualifying for the FIFA World Cup scheduled for October 31 and November 2 against Cameroon.

Among the players called up are Gift Nasasira from She Maroons, the duo of St Noa Winnie Kwatira and Aucho Kagongo, Kanyita Naigaga from Taggy High School, Ritah Mushimire from Kawempe Muslims and Devine Mirembe from Gafford Ladies.

As a result, 35 players in total are in camp to prepare to play against the West African nation.

Uganda edged out Tanzania in the opening round before setting a date with Cameroon. The overall winner will play in the World Cup scheduled for early 2021 in Mumbai, India.

The team received a huge financial boost as they prepared for the showdown.

According to Fufa communications director Ahmed Hussein, a total of 35 players will each receive USD100 in financial support from the Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa) before the decisive two-legged match.

“Fufa will fund 35 players from the U-17 women’s national team and each player will receive $ 100 to assist them in personal training as they prepare for the final stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers with Cameroon.” Hussein told the Fufa official. website.

“The coaches have been in constant contact with the players, sharing training manuals while we wait for the government to lift the blockade of sports activities.

“We believe that this financial facilitation will help players continue personal training as we work around plans for the team to camp in preparation for the games against Cameroon.”

The statement continued: “Fufa stands ready to support the team in achieving our goal of qualifying for the 2021 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.”
