Ethiopia, United States signs $ 230 million development partnership agreement

The United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Federal Ministry of Finance signed a new development partnership agreement with Ethiopia this week worth more than $ 230 million. Admasu Nebebe, Minister of Finance of the State of Ethiopia, and Sean Jones, USAID Director of Mission, signed the development partnership agreement.

The agreement, affirms the government of EE. The US underscores the continued commitment of the American people to invest in improving health, education, agriculture, economic growth, good governance and strengthened resilience of Ethiopians. Under the agreement, USAID will also continue to work with the Government of Ethiopia and other international and local partners to expand access to quality health care and services, improve education, and advance a transformational model of economic growth led by the private sector.

“We are pleased to renew our association with the Government of Ethiopia and formalize the next chapter of our association. This agreement is more than just money: it is about building on the strong interpersonal alliances that our two countries have shared for decades, and we look forward to continuing this important work together to build a brighter and more prosperous future for all Ethiopians, ”said the USAID mission director Sean Jones.

The USAID Development Assistance Agreement provides the funds and resources necessary to accelerate development progress and help Ethiopia achieve its goal of becoming a middle-income country.

The United States is the largest provider of bilateral assistance in Ethiopia. Over the past 20 years, the United States’ long-term investments in Ethiopia amount to more than $ 13 billion in total assistance, with more than $ 4 billion in the past five years alone, highlighting the long-standing partnership of the American people with Ethiopia.
