The Switch 2020 lineup has looked a bit thin, but got a good boost with the announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King. It marks the series debut on Switch and will launch on July 17.
the Paper Mario The series debuted on the N64 and has deferred from the main series with a focus on comedy and the occasional spin-off of RPG. The king of origami seems to fit firmly into that classic Paper Mario style, complete with lovely papercraft art and too many puns. The game also includes what Nintendo describes as “a new ring-based battle system that allows you to flex your puzzle-solving skills to align scattered enemies and maximize damage.” In terms of the story, this is how Nintendo describes the premise:
Mario faces one of his most exciting challenges so far in Paper Mario: The Origami King when the dangerous King Olly unleashes his plan to double the entire world. Just when things couldn’t get worse, he tied Princess Peach’s Castle in giant colored streamers and transported it to a distant mountain. He has even transformed Bowser’s minions into folded soldiers and enlisted them in his treacherous cause.
The king of origami joins a relatively light training that includes the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles and Bravely Default II. Of course, Nintendo already has great success on their hands with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has sold over 13 million copies and helped drive Switch sales.
