NY (TADIAS) – This week, a group of photographers and artists based in Ethiopia and the Diaspora is launching an online fundraising campaign called “Impressions for Ethiopia”, donating artwork for sale to address the call for Country action during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Organizers say their fundraising effort is geared towards providing assistance to thousands of street children in Addis Ababa who are severely affected by the slowdown in social and commercial activity in the city.
“Inspired by a similar action in London and New York, we hope to support our city with the simple concept: buy prints, feed the community,” says the ad. “Each is donating a print in support of Addis Ababa-based social enterprise Temsalet Kitchen, with all proceeds going to feed homeless children and families in Addis Ababa during the COVID-19 crisis.”
The project is led by photographer Gelane Dissassa, who lives in Ethiopia and Germany, as well as by American filmmaker Edelawit Hussien and features “8 x 11 inch unsigned limited edition prints in quantity of 10 with a worldwide shipping option, as well as premises collected in Addis Ababa “.

Temsalet Kitchen is a social enterprise restaurant located in the Sarbet area of Addis Ababa that exists to provide single mothers and vulnerable women with a platform to prosper by providing training and job opportunities. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis, Temsalet Kitchen has begun feeding about a hundred people daily in the Megenagna and Tekle Haykmanot area. They also ensure that follow-up programs are provided for street children and are available to help them re-integrate into society and ultimately provide them with a platform for healing and growth by partnering with local social workers.
So far, the social enterprise has not asked for any donation to facilitate this initiative. As the state of emergency has been called for the next four months, the founders are now calling people to action. We want to financially support this great act of kindness with your help and increase the number of people served daily, as well as guarantee the longevity of the initiative until things return to normal.
