Just a few days ago, Apple released the new MacBook Pro 13. It is certainly an impressive machine, but there are several rival devices that can compete in both performance and price.
MSI Modern 14 Notebook – $ 1461.79 at XoticPC (pre-order)
(approximately £ 1200 / AU $ 2250)
The Modern 14 is not far from the new MacBook Pro 13, and it is certainly much kinder to bags. At the moment, it’s only available to pre-order, but with a dedicated graphics card, 2TB SSD, and Windows 10 Pro, this MSI machine might well be worth considering.
Well, at least to some extent, since Apple hardware is often custom and custom in nature. For example, the Intel 1068NG7 processor in the MacBook Pro appears to be exclusive to Apple. It is built on a new 10nm manufacturing process, has the highest base frequency of any Intel laptop CPU, and an Iris Plus graphics processor that can drive 4K content at 120Hz.
However, if you are not willing to shell out the Apple device, you may be happy to meet the MSI Modern 14. MSI is not a household name, but it has been around for over 20 years and is well known for its motherboards and gaming laptops. The Modern 14, however, is a business laptop and is currently available to preorder.

At $ 1,461.79 (approximately £ 1,200 / AU $ 2,250), it’s less than half the price of the Apple device (which has a suggested retail price of $ 2,999) and features a comparable setup.
The CPU is a slower Intel Core i7-10510U, but you get a dedicated graphics card: the Nvidia Geforce MX330 with 2GB GDDR5. The machine also features a 2TB XPC and Windows 10 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD, to highlight its business credentials.

Now how do the two compare? The MacBook Pro is heavier, has a higher resolution, and a smaller screen (meaning better pixel density). Its memory is also almost 50% faster and features a much larger battery (58Whr vs. 50Whr).
The MSI Modern 14 doesn’t compete with Apple’s new device, but it’s not far and could be a great choice for anyone after a high-performance business laptop.
