After La Liga president Javier Tebas said he wanted the 2019-20 season to resume on June 12, Barcelona central Gerard Piqué opined that they should not rush to restart the suspended season.

“Start on June 12? But the players are worried and we don’t want the start of the league to be rushed, “said Piqué, as quoted by Movistar.

In particular, there has been no soccer match in Spain since March 12 in view of the coronavirus pandemic and only recently are the organizers reflecting to restart the La Liga season in mid-June, as the players have resumed the individual training.

Piqué thinks the players have been off the field for a long time and therefore need some time to prepare before the season resumes.

“We have stopped for a long time, unable to play friendlies. I would like to take into account that we are well prepared for there to be good games. A few more days of training will not be bad for us,” said the Spaniard.

Before Tebas, Leganés coach Javier Aguirre had stated that the suspended season of La Liga will begin on June 20 and end on July 26.

Claiming that the League had “officially” reported it, the coach had given further details that the remaining matches would be played on Saturdays and Sundays and on Wednesdays and Thursdays, for 11 dates.

According to the latest reports, five players tested positive for COVID-19 in Spain’s two main divisions.
