Call of Duty Warzone is proving to be very popular with PS4, Xbox One, and PC gamers, and while not the entire Battle Royale experience can be found on mobile platforms, there is always interest in ports. Fortnite and PUBG Mobile are probably the two biggest, but the impact Call of Duty Mobile has had cannot be denied. Millions of downloads and has shown how Call of Duty can be a success on Android and iOS devices, far from traditional platforms.
And with all that in mind, it makes sense for analysts and gamers to wonder if Call of Duty Warzone is coming to Mobile in the future, too.
The first thing that comes to mind against such an event occurring is the cannibalization of a successful product.
COD Mobile already includes a Battle Royale mode, so why bother stepping on the same terrain?
The answer to this would be that while Call of Duty Mobile has its own BR, there is probably enough room for both apps on the market.
As many players will already know, Call of Duty Warzone is dedicated only to Battle Royale, while Call of Duty Mobile includes different multiplayer experiences.
So the idea that Call of Duty Warzone would gobble up COD Mobile’s audience on Android and iOS seems unlikely.
So why do people think Call of Duty Warzone on mobile could happen sometime in the future?
On the one hand, we know that COD Warzone is not a phase and it is something that will be present after the end of Modern Warfare support.
Two new seasonal updates are being planned for Modern Warfare and Warzone, while the last one is expected to fit future COD releases.
That means that seasonal support is expected to line up with future Call of Duty games, with a new premium title to be released later this year.
Activision also confirmed during a recent earnings report that two new mobile games are in the works, although they have not disclosed which ones they are.
Commenting on current world events, Activision’s earnings presentation featured this information: “While almost all employees transitioned to work from home, we continue to expect to deliver a strong list of content throughout the year, including the next premium version. for Call of Duty, two IP-based titles from Activision’s library, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, regional testing for new mobile titles, and continuous live operations on our key titles. “
This is rather vague information and could be related to a series of franchises owned by Activision.
But with millions of people now playing Warzone, it would make sense to announce more support in the future.
An additional comment on the topic from Activision COO Daniel Alegre adds: “Although the move to remote work adds complexity and challenges in some areas of the game development process, including creative collaboration, motion capture, work from voice-over, location and quality assurance, are implementing mitigation measures to address each of these areas.
“Importantly, based on work done to date, we still hope to offer a robust list of content for the rest of the year.
“This includes the upcoming premium launch of Call of Duty, two IP-based titles from Activision’s library, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion, regional testing for new mobile titles, and continuous live operations in our key franchises.”
