Volibear rework details and ARAM event revealed for League of Legends

On Friday night, Riot Games revealed details of the upcoming Volibear rework for League of Legends through a global live stream event. The thunderous demigod’s abilities along with his appearance make the brand new Volibear tankier than ever. Think of a bigger, scarier version of Tibbers. Details of an ARAM event were mentioned as well.

Volibear rework abilities

Following some technical difficulties that initially knocked the stream offline, viewers jumped into a cinematic, snowy scene depicting large, shadowy figures of Ornn, Anivia, and Volibear in the skies. After about 10 minutes of waiting, Riot finally teased some in-game fights showcasing Volibear’s new abilities and skins.

In a Reddit post, Volibear champion designer Nathan Lutz showed his excitement by teasing some details on the upcoming changes. “Our marketing team is trying something new and over-the-top, and I’m grateful that they chose our bear to be a part of it.”

Via short clips, it seems as though his passive is similar to his current ultimate ability. Additionally, he now has more crowd control, receiving a powerful shield and activating slows on his enemies. According to Lutz, neither his ultimate nor his E has cast times and can be cast while moving. More details on his abilities may be revealed soon.

Riot Games also revealed an upcoming “Thousand Pierced” skin that seems very different from his previous themes. This new skin features darker colors, knives on his back, and an intimidating design.

New ARAM event

The final scene of the teaser shows Volibear stomping around and crashing into the Howling Abyss bridge. This is followed by a list of dates from May 9 to May 12, which is when the Volibear-themed All-Random-All-Mid (ARAM) map will be available. The event also includes an exclusive Volibear emote.

The expected release should go live in PBE in the next patch. Riot will continue to share more details on the Volibear rework, so stick around with Daily Esports for coverage on more League of Legends news.
