DANIEL CORMIER has revealed the security measures in force at UFC 249, as the pay-per-event event takes place amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Initially scheduled for April 18 in Brooklyn, UFC President Dana White has faced obstacles for the host after having to cancel the show twice.

But after professional sports in Florida were able to resume, because it was critical to its economy, UFC 249 moved to take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena with Tony Ferguson headlining against Justin Gaethje.

Former heavyweight champion Cormier, who worked as a commentator, shared a video on Twitter of the UFC’s social distancing measures.

All of the commentators have been separated, members of the media are scattered, while commissioners, cornerbacks, and security are also scattered around the scene.

The staff in the video was also seen wearing PPE masks.

The fighters were said to undergo swab and antibody tests during the week of the fight, in addition to having their temperature checked daily and asking questions about coronavirus symptoms.

Swab tests can detect if a person currently has Covid-19, while the antibody is made through a blood sample and tells them if they have had it.

Middleweight Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza He tested positive for the virus, forcing him to cancel his fight against Uriah Hall, and the Brazilian left the UFC hotel at a social distance and received medical attention.

In a statement to ESPN, White said: “We administered 1,200 tests this week, on 300 people.” It is not unexpected for a person to test positive. The system works.

“And the good thing about this is that we now know that Jacare tested positive, is doing what he needs to do and we are in a position to help him if he needs to.”
