Google Duo allows families to scribble on video calls

Google is introducing another set of capabilities for Duo, improving the video chat application for the third consecutive month.

Family mode appears as the most significant addition. Allows participants in a video call to illustrate on screen using different colored pencils. Everyone can see the illustrations, and Google hides other buttons on iOS and Android to avoid accidental silences or blocks. Also, the latest Duo update includes various skins and effects. People looking to chat may not usually be interested in these features, but families with children will appreciate what Google created.

Meanwhile, Duo’s web-based client will soon allow users to create group calls from Chrome. They are limited to joining right now, but Google plans to expand controls in the coming weeks. It will also be released alongside a redesigned design to show more people simultaneously.

“We hope these features help you connect better with your loved ones and your loved ones, and also bring some fun to your conversations,” Google said in its blog post.

Google released major updates in both March and April. In response to global closings, the Duo app increased its maximum capacity to 8 people per call. Duo then got a whole new video codec technology, permanent voice and video messages, and other features last month. It doesn’t seem like Google plans to slow down anytime soon, and therefore additional features should arrive in June and throughout the summer.
