Ethiopia has lost around $ 25 million from the horticulture subsector since the outbreak of global COVID-19.

The Executive Director of the Ethiopian Horticultural Producers and Exporters Association (EHPEA), Tewodros Zewdie, said that even if “Detailed evaluations are being conducted, preliminary evaluations show that about $ 25 million has been compromised or lost due to COVID-19.”

The months of February and May are considered high season for flower exports, he said, adding that “we can (therefore) say that this year’s high season has been very busy.” But we are making unremitting efforts to minimize the impact and not lay off workers. ”

According to him, “a number of adverse impacts have been observed in the horticulture supply chain after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Further, We are dealing with perishables that should be on the supermarket shelves as soon as possible. This requires smart and perishable logistics and, at the same time, the free movement of goods from one border to another. the executive director elaborated. (ENA)

Indore for the groom Bahir Dar in waste management

Indore has been selected to assist Bahir Dar in the implementation of the solid waste management system.

The cleanest city in India has been selected for this task as part of the proposed “Waste Wise Cities Campaign” under the UN-Habitat Program.

Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rajneesh Kasera said they would assist Bahir Dar.

“This program is aimed at cleaning and establishing sustainable waste management practices in 20 cities around the world by 2022,” Kasera told the Times of India.

He said that requests from different cities were invited to apply as a city creating change, taking on the challenges or as a partisan city, helping a city creating change (civic and technical twinning).

“We have adapted best possible practices in solid waste management based on which, we have decided to go for the second option.” he said.

“This program would not only help us share our best practices with other cities, but would also provide us with opportunities to learn and improvise for future needs,” he said. (TOI)
