Robin van Persie claims that Arsenal was unable to offer him a new contract, prompting his controversial transfer to Manchester United.

Van Persie broke hearts in North London when he handed over the Gunners captaincy and joined Man United for £ 24 million in 2012.

The Dutchman would continue to rub more salt on the wounds of Arsenal fans by winning his first Premier League trophy in his inaugural season at Old Trafford.

But Van Persie claims that it was never his intention to break Arsenal’s hearts as he was not desperate to leave the club. Instead, he alleges that it was the Gunners who were unable to offer him new terms, effectively deciding for him.

Speaking in High-performance podcast Van Persie said: “I understand that (criticism). But I can promise my children, if someone comes along with evidence that Arsenal offered me a deal, I’ll give him a million. [pounds] now today.

“It was Arsenal’s decision not to offer me a deal and that depends on them. After many conversations it became clear that we had different ideas about the club.”

“I had seven points where I thought Arsenal could improve and, in my opinion, those seven points should immediately start facing them in order to compete with the best teams.”

“It doesn’t really matter what points they are, what matters is that Ivan [Gazidis] He decided that he disagreed with a single point of those seven points, which is quite fair.
