Arsenal are reportedly willing to offer Alexandre Lacazette in exchange for a share for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.
Gunners chief Mikel Arteta is desperate to get the £ 50m midfield executor this summer, and has made him his main transfer target.
However, Atlético is not interested in selling Partey, and is willing to offer him an extension of his current contract, which spans another three years.
They want to tie the young man of 25 years until at least 2025, as well as increase his release clause to avoid external interests.
But The Sun reports that Arsenal will try to test the Spanish club’s determination first, proposing a trade deal involving Lacazette.
Atleti is in the market for a striker and they are long-term admirers of French.
The move could also attract Lacazette, as the 28-year-old has struggled to keep a regular starting job for Arsenal.
Much could depend on whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moves this summer, with his contractual status still in the air.
It is doubtful whether Arsenal will allow both their captain and Lacazette to leave the club, although Arteta remains confident that he can retain Aubameyang’s services.
That would pave the way for Lacazette to leave the club, even though he still has two years left on his contract.
Atlético also watches over PSG veteran Edinson Cavani, who will be a free agent this summer.
In addition to attacking Partey, Arsenal are also in talks with French club Stade de Reims about center-back Axel Disasi.
Arteta has already seen the 22-year-old who was beaten in December once approach after being impressed with the youth’s displays in Ligue 1 this season.
Reims are resigned to losing Disasi, who has no contract in 2021, and are ready to cash it in this summer, provided Arsenal can meet its £ 15m valuation.
