It was Ryan Giggs who emerged victorious from the second semifinal of the Mirror Football Major League World Cup, firing former Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes.
Giggs will now face Arsenal’s great Thierry Henry in Thursday’s final as the battle to uncover the legend of Premier League legends draws to a close.
Henry beat Cristiano Ronaldo, another great ex-United, in Tuesday’s first semifinal, and will now face Giggs after the Welshman received 54 percent of the vote in the battle with Scholes, who won 11 titles in the Premier League at United compared to Giggs 13.
Both players emerged victorious from quarter-final meetings with more United legends, with Giggs defeating former United captain Roy Keane and Scholes getting the best of club Wayne Rooney’s all-time top scorer.
Giggs is United’s all-time record holder, and after serving on the club’s coaching staff under former boss Louis van Gaal, he is now in charge of the Wales national team.
He will face off in his matchup with the Gunners’ top scorer, Henry, who won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his stay in North London.
Henry, who beat Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard in the quarterfinals, was a mainstay of Arsenal’s attack between 1999 and 2007, and also returned for a brief loan period at the club in the mid-2011/12 season.
The Premier League Greats World Cup has pitted 32 of the best talent to honor the Premier League against each other in recent weeks, all in a World Cup format.
The Henry vs. Giggs battle will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday GMT, when you can vote through the Mirror Football website.
Voting closes at 10 p.m. GMT.
