At least nine al-Shabaab terrorists were killed in Somalia on Sunday when the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group mounted an attack Sunday morning on an army base in the south-west of the country.

Mohamed Mukhtar, the district deputy commissioner in the Bay region city of Qasahdhere, told local media that the army, backed by Ethiopian forces serving under the Union peacekeeping mission forces Africana in the country of the Horn of Africa (AMISOM) killed at least nine terrorists. during the attack.

Speaking by phone to Anadolu Agency, Qasahdhere District Commissioner Abdirisaq Abdi Ibrahim said his administration, along with regional paramilitary forces and AMISOM, were aware of the attack coming and ambushed the terrorists.

“We received intelligence on the impending attack and our forces managed to repel the attack,” Ibrahim said.

It added that more than 11 terrorist fighters were also injured in the attack and their weapons seized.

Qasahdhere is an agricultural city located about 346 kilometers (214 miles) southwest of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, and 90 km west of Baidoa, the capital of Bay.
