Hey, it’s only two games, but that’s a sweep! The Cubs certainly enjoy playing in Cleveland.
The Cubs are now 12-3. I know this year is strange and whatever … but good Lord. That’s so freaking amazing.
Kyle Hendricks is always very good at managing contact, but he was PARTICULARLY good this afternoon, with an average cut-off speed of just 81.9 mph. Suffice it to say, your eyes did not fool you: Hendricks really got all sorts of crooked contact. Also 13 whiffs out of 90 pitches and no walks at night.
It feels like it’s been a real minute since we saw Rowan Wick and Jeremy Jeffress, who were each pretty impressive. Wick went 1.1 innings, and three outings. And Jeffress excludes the game, even as the lead grew to five runs (Craig Kimbrel was also warming up).
Offensively, the night actually looked like last night in many ways: a lot of grinding, great at bumps early, but not much to look forward to. Many runners ran in large places on base. But run here and there, and before you know it, the run is totally strong at the end of the game. Again, a reminder that the Indian display staff had given up no more than four in a game EVERY YEAR until this series with the Cubs, who scored seven each night.
The Cubs scored from every pitcher the Indians brought in last night. That’s fun.
