Four straight losses for the Cubs, which is like losing 11 straight in a normal-length season. HOWEVA, it’s not * actually * 11 straight loss. That that’s good? Better?
It still sucks.
Kyle Hendricks cruised through six innings today, with his only hit allowed accounting for the only run he had allowed up to that point – a Dexter Fowler solo homer – but ran into trouble in the 7th. A double, running, single loaded the bases, and although he came out one after that, he went out in favor of Rowan Wick with one. Unfortunately, Wick immediately gave up a two-run duel.
The Cubs had a golden opportunity to set up a crooked number early, with Anthony Rizzo and Javy Báez based on third and second, with one out. But the cardinals ran Willson Contreras to load the bases for Ian Happ, hit right, and he struck out. David Bote then jumped out.
The golden opportunities were not many and far between, as the bats were powerfully silent in the short game.
