UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that concerts and indoor performances will begin in England from August 1 Billboard Reports and UK Secretary of Culture Oliver Dowden confirmed in a tweet. The plan marks phase four of England’s five-stage reopening strategy for live events. Social distancing will prevail in indoor presentations.
According to an official announcement seen by Billboard, artists, audience members, and venues “are expected to maintain social distance at all times,” and reduced capacity, deep cleaning requirements, and staggered sets may also be required. Certain venues, including the London Symphony Orchestra at St. Luke’s London, will be used as pilot venues for socially remote concerts to inform future venue guidelines.
“Starting August 1, the socially distant audience can return for indoor performances in theaters, music halls, and other venues,” Oliver Dowden tweeted today (July 17). “This is based on pilots with @londonsymphony and others. I am excited to advance to Stage 4 of our culture roadmap. “Find his full tweet below.
The current reopening strategy for the locations applies only to England, and not the rest of the UK.
Earlier this month, the UK government announced a £ 1.57 billion ($ 1.96 billion) stimulus package to be allocated to theaters, galleries, museums and cultural venues that have suffered the financial stress of the pandemic COVID-19.
