England to allow indoor concerts next month

Indoor concerts may resume in England next month, reports Variety. “Starting August 1, the socially distant audience can return for indoor performances in theaters, music venues and other venues,” Oliver Dowden, UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports, announced yesterday at Twitter “This is based on pilots with @londonsymphony and others. I am very happy to advance to Stage 4 of our roadmap for culture. “

“The UK performing arts sector is recognized worldwide and I am pleased that we are making real progress in reopening its doors to the public with social distancing,” Dowden added in a statement. “Starting in August, indoor theaters, music venues, and performance venues will welcome audiences across the country.”

This is Stage 4 of the UK government’s five-stage roadmap for the reopening of culture and the performing arts. Social distancing guidelines that include reduced venue capacity and limited ticket sales, online tickets, and regular deep cleanings will still be in effect. The announcement applies only to England, as the reopening of public events in the rest of the UK is controlled by national administrations.
