The launch of Tesla’s “Battery Day” is almost here, scheduled for tomorrow after being rescheduled for April due to the Ronavirus epidemic. But with just hours to go until the company reveals something – the expectation is that it has developed at least one new type of battery cell that could help it stay ahead of the growing EV competition – Elon Musk has some News.
We also intend to increase, not reduce, battery cell purchases from Panasonic, LG and CATL (possibly other partners). However, despite our cell suppliers moving at maximum speed, we still expect a significant shortage in 2022 and unless we take action ourselves.

According to Musk, “what we are announcing will not reach serious high-volume production by 2022,” and will have an impact on half, cybertruck and roadster. He also said the company plans to increase battery cell purchases from partners such as Panasonic and LG, but indicated that the company will take steps to avoid shortages in the future, which are likely to come in cell manufacturing only. The annual meeting of stockholders and the Barry Day event are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. PT.
