Elon Musk says that Tesla’s Autopilot / FSD (FSC) rewrite will result in improvements in “quantum leap”, and the rewrite will be postponed to the next six to 10 weeks after the fleet.
As we recently reported, Tesla is going through “an important fundamental rewrite in the Tesla Autopilot.” As part of the rewriting, CEO Elon Musk says it “neural no longer absorbs more and more of the problem.”
It will also include a more in-depth labeling system.
Now Musk has again commented on the Autopilot / FSD rewrite.
The CEO claims that it will result in a “quantum leap”:
“The FSD improvement will come as a quantum leap, because it is a fundamental architectural rewriting, not an incremental adjustment. I personally drive the flowering edge alpha in my car. Almost at zero interventions between home and work. Limited public release in 6 to 10 weeks. ”
Last month, the CEO said the Autopilot update is two to four months away, and it will help Tesla deploy more features much faster.
Therefore, the timeline slips by a few weeks.
“Limited release” generally means that Tesla will send the update to “Early Access” owners who first test an advanced beta version of some new features and give feedback before Tesla sends it to the wider fleet.
It is also the second time Musk has mentioned testing the alpha build of the Autopilot rewrite in his own personal Tesla car.
During Tesla’s Q2 earnings, the CEO said he left his home to work “without intervention”:
So I personally tested the latest alpha build of complete self-driving software when I drive my car and it really is that I think deeply better than people realize it. It looked great. That it is almost to the point that I can leave home to work without interventions, despite construction and changing situations. That this is the reason I am very confident that full functioning of self-government will be complete by the end of this year, because I am literally driving it.
Musk’s personal Model S was unveiled last month, and it also has a prototype color.
Last year, Musk announced Tesla’s plan to deploy 1 million ‘Robotaxi’ cars by the end of 2020.
This new update is critical for Tesla to achieve that goal, which Musk claims is yet to be achieved.
