Tesla has released limited edition short shorts that cost “$ 69,420,” CEO Elon Musk revealed in a tweet Sunday. As of Monday morning, the red satin pants are already sold out.
Musk, who has joked about selling shorts before, seemed to be criticizing short sellers and investors who bet against Tesla.
The shorts’ price is likely a reference to, well, marijuana, but also the $ 420 share price suggested by the Tesla CEO in a 2018 tweet when considering taking the company privately. The tweet sparked the United States Securities and Exchange Commission will sue Musk and request his expulsion from Tesla. Musk has resolved the dispute and resigned as chairman of the company’s board.
The shorts have the word “S3XY” in gold on the back, referring to Tesla’s car models. “Run like the wind or have fun like Liberace with our red satin and gold design,” says the pants description. “Enjoy exceptional comfort since the doorbell closes.”
Tesla sells a range of clothing, toys, and accessories, including a $ 600 Tesla Model S for kids. Its sister organization The famous Boring Company sold a flamethrower.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
