Nate Oats remains a wizard on the recruiting path, adding 6’11 big man “Alex” FrenTchi “Tchikou to an already strong class of 2020.
The oatmeal run will now move to the top 15 in the country, and that doesn’t even count the addition of Jordan Bruner, arguably the best graduate transfer in the country.
As I mentioned yesterday, Tchikou has a great story. She left her family in France to come to the United States and pursue the dreams of the NBA. Alex played just one year in high school at Dream City Christian School in Glendale, AZ, and managed to graduate early and reclassify. He won’t be 19 years old in time for the NBA 2021 Draft, so he’ll likely be close to Tuscaloosa for at least two seasons.
Tchikou’s abilities jump off the screen, even making some comparisons to NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. He is now more polished offensively than any other great man we’ve had in a few seasons. Alex runs the floor well and can be seen knocking down three, leading the quick break, and appears to have a great shot blocking instinct. In its highlight below, you see it stay upright and use its length to erase shots without scaling.
The front track at Tuscaloosa has now been completely overhauled. Alex Reese and Javian Davis-Fleming return, but it’s hard to imagine breaking the starting lineup with Tchikou joining Bruner and James Rojas returning from injury. This team has talent on the roster, including several guys who have a real shot at the NBA, and it will be the deepest roster we’ve had in years.
Welcome to Tuscaloosa, Alex. Roll Tide.
