El Paso County Judge Samanigo announced a holiday curfew due to virus concerns

El Paso

E.L. PASO, Texas – El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samanigo on Wednesday announced a curfew for the Christmas and New Year holidays, citing coronavirus concerns.

The curfew will run from 10pm to 5pm on December 23 and 26 and again from December 30 to January 4.

El Pason will be relieved from the curfew on going to work, at the store for essential items or taking medical care, primarily aimed at social gatherings.

“We will focus a lot on the bad performers,” the judge said of the curfew implementation plan.

The new curfew is the same as that imposed on judges during the passing period.

Following the Thanksgiving, after the summer holidays, El Paso did not experience the kind of spike he saw in virus cases. The judge said he believes the Thanksgiving curfew played a role in preventing the spread of the post-holiday virus.

“We haven’t gone out of the woods yet,” the judge insisted, as health workers showed support for their curfew order, noting that currently 24% of all hospitals locally are the result of the virus.

He also said there are currently 295 bodies in County Morg, most of them Covid-19 victims, due to a backlog of death toll from the El Paso virus in funeral homes.
