Eighth pay generation iPad hand-on: Apple’s new ‘good enough’ tablet is a key improvement

The entry level iPad gets better with a faster processor. It is a solid package (pencil not included).

Don’t spend too much. Get something that works. Screens for kids. Another zoom window. I juggle that stuff all the time, and the everyday iPad, which Apple Pal just calls the “iPad,” has played that role for years.

The iPad has always been a “good enough” iPad, while Pro and Air have been offering fan features and better performance. This year, The iPad Air is getting a big improvement With a new processor, larger display and USB-C that looks great IPad Pro For less. But that new iPad Air starts at $ 599 (9579, AU $ 899). This The eighth-generation iPad I am using, available on Fridays, starting at 329 (32 9329, AU $ 499). Most stores will probably drop it to 300 300, and holiday sales could be as high as ડ 250 if there is any indication in previous years.

Not much to say about this new 10.2-inch iPad. It’s the same device as last year with one key improvement: now it’s A12 processor instead of last year’s A10. That’s a big difference, and if you have an iPad that is many years old, this makes this the best time to consider an upgrade. Basic iPad last year Increased screen size and added a smart connector on the side, but the processor hasn’t changed. Between the two years, that’s a big shift.

Great news

The A12 is just as good as last year’s iPad Air. For comparison, the 2019 iPad Air had an A12. Now it looks like the basic eighth-generation iPad is the air.

The screen still looks nice. The 2,160×1,620 display isn’t 120 Hz and it’s not as vivid as the iPad Pro, but you won’t notice. Seriously.

A quick charger is included.

The Bux has a better charger. The 20-watt charger is more powerful and charges faster. It’s a nice pack-in, usually the chargers don’t upgrade considering the moment. The iPad still has Lightning instead of USB-C, but the other end of the charge cable is now USB-C, so it’s more easily plugged into the new M-B book.

The Apple Pal Pencil still goes to the Lightning port for charging.

Not so great news

This iPad still doesn’t have USB-C. Other iPads do now, and USB-C is more compatible with other chargers and accessories. Yes good There are still lightning adapters for many dongle requirements like HDMI, but that’s the trouble.

It’s compatible with older Apple pencil and keyboard cases, not new ones. While the iPad Air and Pro get to use fancy side-connecting pencils, this one uses an still older Rolly pencil that enters the Lightning port to charge. It also works with a few smart keyboard cases, but not with Apple’s new and expensive Magic keyboard.

The smart keyboard case and the Apple Pull Pencil work with this iPad, but they cost more … and they are not the latest versions.

Scott Stein / CNET

It does not include accessories. All you get in the box is an iPad and a charger. If you want a pencil ($ 100) and a keyboard case (different prices), you are starting to run the total price quickly.

The 9329 includes only 32GB of storage. You really want the 128GB version, which costs 9429.

My placement is still fantastic. Come on, Apple Pal. Most people use zoom and similar video calling gender apps with the iPad in landscape mode, which turns the camera into a fantastic off-center placement and leaves your face off-angle. IPads should move their camera placement to the long side edge. Who is with me

Cellular costs extra, and you don’t need it. If you want to get a cellular iPad, you can for વધુ 130 more. Plus data fees. Tether with your phone instead or just use Wi-Fi.

IPadOS 14 is here now, and you can try it on your existing iPad before finally upgrading to iPads.

Should you wait for the iPad Air?

Apple Paul’s fancy iPad is still a few weeks away. Are you waiting for it? It depends on whether you are willing to spend more and you think you will need extra processing. The new Air may have a sharper design and may be the best iPad, but it’s hard to beat last year’s iPad Air just in front of me at 329d for lr.

I haven’t spent more than a day with the new iPad, so more impressions are to come. But so far nothing has changed my previous advice. For most people, this is the iPad to buy.
