Ed Orgeron releases statement following accusations by Derrius Guice, saying quote is not accurate

Ed Orgeron issued a statement on Thursday saying an alleged citation to the LSU coach by a former player was inaccurate after two women accused Derrius Guice of rape during his time at LSU.

USA TODAY reports that one of the women was the girlfriend of an LSU football recruit. The recruiter, after signing in 2016, redshirted to avoid Guice, per the report. Only after he signed did he go to Orgeron for his girlfriend and Guice.

“(Orgeron) said, ‘Every girlfriend sleeps with other people,'” the former player told USA TODAY.

Orgeron said in the statement that quote is inaccurate.

“The anonymous quote given to me by a former player in USA Today is not accurate,” Orgeron said. ‘Out of respect for the young man’s privacy, I will not disclose the full details of the conversation. What I will say is that a player came into my office to discuss transfers of our program. We also discussed the player’s challenging relationship with his girlfriend. I told him what I would tell my own sons: ‘We all experience heartbeat growing. Do not promise academic and football career at LSU because of a personal obstacle. ‘Every statement I made about his girlfriend and Derrius Guice is completely false. ”

In 2016, Guice was a rookie, and Orgeron was a defensive line coach.

“The allegations of sexual assault against Derrius Guice need to be taken very seriously and the alleged victims need to be heard and supported. I will always stand up for what is good and without question, I have complied – and I will continue to comply – with all the protocols and procedures of Title IX of the University, “Orgeron said in the statement.

USA Today reported the women – former LSU students – were raped months apart in 2016 when he was an emerging freshman.

A USA Today investigation, per the report, found that the women’s allegations at the time were shared with multiple people at the school.

Guice, a runback for the Washington Football Team, was released earlier this month after being accused of multiple incidents of domestic violence.

The Sheriff’s County Sheriff’s Department Department told The Associated Press that Guice was arrested on one count of alienation, three counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property. Strangulation is a Class 6 crime in Virginia.

The team said in a statement that it learned of a potential situation for domestic violence, immediately notified the NFL and met with Guice to excuse him from football activities pending a review. After learning of the multiple charges against him, reviewing the case and discussing the case, Washington said it decided to release Guice.
