NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon recently appeared on the Vic’s Basement podcast. During the discussion, Ed Boon revealed the request he hears the most from fans.
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that there’s a push to bring Mileena to Mortal Kombat 11. You could almost say that fans have been chasing Ed Boon about it since the game’s release.
“So some of them are emboldened to say, ‘Well, I’m just going to ask a hundred thousand times until I get away with it.'” – Ed Boon.
“It is good to have such a ridiculously persistent fan base that fortunately, or unfortunately, they know we are listening, they know we have responded sometimes,” Boon said in response to requests for “We love Mileena.” “So some of them feel emboldened to say, ‘Well, I’m just going to ask a hundred thousand times until I get away with it.'”
This is probably what led Boon to tell a fan that “they will never see Mileena in one of the [the NetherRealm Studios’] games never again. Never. “In particular, this Tweet was released on April Fool’s Day.
Ed Boon would later clarify that he never seriously said he doesn’t want Mileena to return to Mortal Kombat. Fighting game developers seem to have this tendency to want to provoke fans and it seems like Ed Boon is no exception.
With Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath releasing Sheeva, Fujin, and RoboCop as DLC characters, it looks like Mortal Kombat 11 could be done with post-launch content. Even Boon stated that NetherRealm Studios is currently working on something unrelated to Mortal Kombat or Injustice.
However, a certain data miner is under the impression that a Kombat Pack 3 may be in development. Without official confirmation, this statement should be treated as a rumor.
Based on the character’s demand, we’ll most likely see Mileena return to the franchise at some point.
