Well, it took a very long time, but we finally got a week where something new happens in Destiny 2, because we hit another mark on the now expanded roadmap.
This week’s reset marks the launch of Solstice of Heroes, the annual summer event that reflects on the past year. From what we can tell so far in these early moments, the event is a pretty close mirror to last year’s event, with the return of the EAZ and its boss / chest spawns for our farm of farm.
We continue the Solstice tradition of upgrading an armor set several times in a refined version, but Bungie has tasein us this time that in a month like the last two years it will not be useless because there will be no major weapon changes, and the sets will not come under sun for a year.
While I love the EAZ and its verticality because I think it’s one of the most creatively designed mini-assemblies in Destiny, I’m never all that excited about the perpetual sharpening of the weapon sets. I’ve listed all the requirements here, but while some you might just do “naturally” over the course of the next month, others, such as Five Adventures or 10 Gambit Games, will probably need to be posted specifically. And the whole process will take a very, very long time.
One of the most controversial steps is the definitive upgrade that requires 7 total Trials wins, something that many PvE-only players just feel is impossible. I think it should be more enjoyable than a normal period of Trials, because in theory you should have other Trials noobs trying to do the same thing in a given weekend, so you can at least have a chance by agreement with a reasonable team that you can defeat. This will be a long process through all these steps, however, outside of the no-lifers who get it all this first week (I mean, don’t judge me if I do).
Eververse has some new items this week including this amazing DBZ emote that is an insta purchase. Some complain about the $ 15 or 6,000 clear fabric cost of the ornamental Solstice armor with the elemental sheen, and I will probably go into more about that.
Elsewhere we still have our weekly ritual of the Inference question, where I see if the tree has changed (tree guard: no major changes) and get some new lore from Eris.
This week is the word Conviction. Lots of interesting stuff in this weird entry. First, Eris thinks that a Ghost she saw flickering around spying on her, because Ghosts are usually afraid to get too close to the pyramids, because they run the risk of being possessed by them (which we have seen ). A spy for whom? Is it dark? Or someone in the Tower?
I think she believes the Vanguard can spy on her, worried about her contact with the Darkness. An interesting line from the lore:
‘The enemy warns me of great abominations embodied in bravery, violence born out of sheer conviction. This post is an extension of the “camouflage” logographer. A warning against my own comrades. ”
For me, this echo of ‘what if we are the bad stuff? ”As in, all our great victories are war crimes for others, ie. decimating the entire Fallen race, for the most part, and our Savior, the Traveler, is a villain to someone else (Eramis).
Eris tells a lot about Zavala specifically, wondering if he would kill her if he believed she had moved to the dark side. She says yes, but he would feel bad about it. Another line about Zavala:
‘But he is not being chased by the hot-blooded elite. He fears overcoming illness. What will happen if our powerful newborn Guardians, accustomed to a swift victory, strike a sharp, humiliating enemy? ‘
This is, in theory, the Darkness, our new threat that we will not just banish in Beyond Light. Or anywhere near Beyond Light, given that a Pyramid is the symbol for Lightfall, two extensions of now. While I would consider the endless responsive waves of Vex, Cabal, Taken, Hive, and Fallen to be “humiliated, abrasive enemies,” we never consider defeating any of them really completely, just individual leaders rising and falling.
Four more weeks of registrations for lore, which soe have been when the season ended, but now that has shifted, so who knows what will happen to this question and this storyline thereafter.
Okay, I have some buildings to jump on.
