Earl Thomas to Dallas at last? Mike McCarthy says he loves the Cowboys roster

When the Baltimore Ravens parted ways with Earl Thomas this weekend, there was illegal speculation about where the All-Pro safety could end up.

But one team was typically above most of those lists: the Dallas Cowboys.

That’s because the Cowboys and Thomas celebrity have been connected for years, including his famous “Come get me” line on Christmas Eve 2017, even though that was delivered to former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.

Cowboys were one of the leading candidates to sign Thomas now that he is free. “data-reactid =” 25 “> ESPN’s Adam Schefter even said the Cowboys were one of the leading candidates to sign Thomas now that he is free.

Does that mean that Thomas is already on his way to Dallas? Well, if so, new Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is playing some damn good poker.

Check out what McCarthy had to say about the possibility of adding Thomas to the roster:

“The conversations I have been involved with – we had a chance to have an in-depth staff meeting two days ago – we are very confident in where we are up to the 80-man list,” McCarthy said. ‘What all the prospects are available for is more interviews for Jerry [Jones], Stephen [Jones] and Will McClay, as far as that situation is concerned. So I actually have nothing to report. ”

That McCarthy did not exactly say that Thomas did not come. But he certainly did not encourage a hospitable party with that offer either.

Answer from Earl Thomas by Mike McCarthy

McCarthy was famous in Green Bay for not saying much about potential personal movements – or other matters, for that matter.

But do not take that as a sign of apathy either. McCarthy said he is well aware of Thomas’ availability and that it has been a topic of discussion around The Star.

‘I talked to both of them [Jerry and Stephen Jones] about it. We talk about everything, ”McCarthy said. ‘We read the news too. You may not think we’re reading your boys’ articles or keeping up to date. We look at each situation. Player purchase lasts 365 days a year. ”

The Ravens cut Thomas on Saturday for behavior that was detrimental to the team. The Ravens ‘players’ management board proved to be interesting to support as well.

Thomas can still play, with Pro Football Focus emerging as the highest rated safety since the league since 2015. Even though he had a rough playoff game in the loss to the Tennessee Titans, Thomas remains a top-tier talent at age 31 – and the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers (where he would partner with former Seahawks secondary mate Richard Sherman) are also likely interested in his services.

Is Dallas in play? It is certainly possible, even if McCarthy appeared to limit the idea.
