Earl Thomas sent home after distribution on the field, per report

Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas was sent home from practice Friday after a heated argument on the field with fellow safety Chuck Clark, per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. There are reports of “mixed frustration” with Thomas among the defensive backs.

It’s the second time in two years that Thomas has been with the Ravens that he has gotten into such an argument with a defensive teammate. He was not at the Ravens practice on Saturday, although Clark was present.

Thomas and Clark came into the argument with about 15 minutes left in the morning practice at the facility. It was sparked by a missed order from Thomas, ESPN reported, and the two began yelling at each other.

Clark was held by teammates and Thomas “appeared to clench his fists as Clark approached him,” per Baltimore Sun.

There was a short break in practice. Then the dustup went on to a few red zone plays. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey stopped Clark, who left the field of play with defensive back Anthony Levine Sr. accompanying him back.

Clark had planned to talk to reporters after the practice about a video call, but it was canceled.

Harbaugh: lasted longer than it had to

Head coach John Harbaugh dealt with the argument after the practice with reporters. Via Baltimore Sun:

‘We will find the details of it. It just took longer than it needed to for me. You will have these things in training camp. I think your tempers will flare, for sure. It happens every training camp, especially right now, probably. But I do not like them when they expand so much and eat into our reps, and we will have to figure out why and make sure that does not happen. We need to keep an eye on the price, which is preparing for the Browns. ”

Thomas, 31, had a confrontation with Williams last year after a game against the Cleveland Browns.

Thomas deletes post with details of ‘mental error’ that started fighting

Thomas addressed the situation on Instagram later Saturday by sharing clips of the practice, but then deleted the post.

The video shows the missing command, which he calls a “mental error on my part.”

‘A busted cover I try to explain calmly [sic] with built-up aggression I turned in [it] with a teammate, ”he wrote in the title.

Thomas said it sucks to be sent home, but he can ‘reflect on things and move on with my plan to help the team win.’ he said it was one of his best camps and that the situation was throwing ‘dirt’ on it.

The seven-time Pro Bowl safety signed a four-year, $ 55-million deal with Baltimore in March 2019. It includes a fully-guaranteed $ 10 million salary for this season, per Spotrac. But per his contract, the guarantee could become involuntary if he is stopped by the Ravens for behavior that is harmful to the team, reported Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. That result is not cut and dry, because Thomas would probably fight it if he was stopped.

Thomas spent nine years with the Sea Seaks, and widely gave the middle finger to coach Pete Carroll when he was selected from the field in 2018 with a leg injury. It was his last game with the Seahawks.
