Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Two players you should not sleep on

Today marked the sixth 2020 training session of the Philadelphia Eagles, open to media. Here’s what I saw!

• No pads today after a physical exercise on Friday and an off-day on Saturday.

EAGLES INJURY UPDATE: I wrote a comprehensive overview of the injury situation that you can read through [CLICKING HERE].

CARSON WENTZ UPDATE: On Saturday morning, I posted links to two articles that went on about how Wentz should become a more accurate thrower. Seems appropriate because Wentz was not very precise today. Wentz beat JJ Arcega-Whiteside 1-on-1 after the receiver made a nice stop-and-go to open in the end zone. Wentz aired a throw to Greg Ward in 1-on-1 that was just a little too far ahead. Wentz threw too wide of Dallas Goedert in 7-on-7. He had a quick throw in the end zone going through the hands of Avonte Maddox. Wentz throws an open DeSean Jackson on a corner. One of Wentz’s attempts to connect with Zach Ertz sailed over the tight end and into the hands of Darius Slay for a potential pick six. Wentz hit Elijah Holyfield on the wheel for a touchdown. That was it at least!

“I already hyped Nickell Robey-Coleman in my”16 winners and 8 losers from the Eagles training camp [so far]“Piece, but NRC deserves more attention to today’s practice. He was in a good position to combat a leap attempt from Ward that went incomplete. NRC hit a Wentz red sun pass meant for DeSean. That’s like at least the third time he’s broken a ball that’s meant for Jackson since he started, making him the most successful cornerback to cover the veteran speedster. NRC plays in the slot should be an upgrade of the production the Eagles got there in 2019. He is on course to be their best slot corner since 2017 Patrick Robinson.

• Deontay Burnett still looks good when his number is mentioned. The 22-year-old caught a faint touchdown from Nate Sudfeld in 1-on-1. Rasul Douglas, who got beat, praised Burnett’s route-run on that rep. Burnett picked up three straight passes from Jalen Hurts during an 11-on-11 series. The first was a good throw from Hurts in a tight window over the middle. The second was a diving tackle from Burnett. The third came when Hurts rolled outside and pointed for Burnett to go to the right corner back and he made the adjustment to get the touchdown. For what it’s worth, defensive backs coach Marquand Manuel claimed that Burnett stepped outside boundaries before re-establishing himself, making it an illegal touch in a real game. Still good demonstration of skill by Burnett. That was when he made a difficult tip-toe catch in the left front corner of the end zone. Burnett can force the team to keep a seventh receiver as something because he clearly can do some good things.

• JJAW and Jalen Reagor each looked good in 1-on-1. JJAW beat Maddox twice with good routes. Reagor did the same thing to Will Parks. Reagor took all first team X receiver reps in group installation with JJAW running with the second team.

• Marcus Green made a nice jumping touchdown catch while sitting in the middle of the end zone. Green made the piece despite Cre’Von LeBlanc running on his back. Good ball from Sudfeld to push it up and give his receiver a chance. Sudfeld previously had a deep finish to Green on Friday. The election for sixth round of 2019 may just push for a spot for a practice group.

• With Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and Corey Clement out, Elijah Holyfield was the first team to return. He is the favorite for fourth place behind that trio. He broke a longer run at one point today.

• Quieter day for Hurts other than the Burnett series I mentioned above. I noticed he killed a wide open Adrian Killins in the apartment.

• I had Quez Watkins down for two drops. One ball went through his hands before being broken up by Douglas. He could not find anyone else who was a little high from Sudfeld along the sideline.

• Josh Sweat scored a ‘sec’ on Carson Wentz in 11-on-11. It has been a good camp for him.

• Casey Toohill has jumped offside at least twice in the past two practices.

Offensive line versus defensive line 1-on-1 notes: Raequan Williams was easily fouled by Jason Kelce. Isaac Seumalo had some issues with Malik Jackson during team drills on Friday, but Seumalo won a battle against him today. Genard Avery was shut down by undefeated rookie-free agent Julian Good-Jones. For more context, JGJ received the 11th highest guarantee of the Eagles’ 12 UDFA signing and Jeff Stoutland forgot his name during a press conference last month.

• Howie Roseman came to Alshon Jeffery to dop him before the two had a conversation while practicing. I told you guys he was never cut or traded.

• I met Eagles personnel consultant Brent Celek at the practice today.

Jalen Reagor worked on catches with one hand at position sources. I have included one of these:

• Jason Kelce wore a Flyers jersey Friday. He wore a Kobe Bryant jersey today:

• I love these musical chairs point return drill:

• Some boring video from camp:
