Eagles Notes (and related NFL): Shady, Bradham to NFC South, Wentz confirms he has meat

There’s no super-remarkable news from the Philadelphia Eagles in recent memory, but there’s a ton of smaller Bird-related news that might be worth covering at once here, so let’s do that.

LeSean McCoy signs with the Buccaneers

The Eagles have shown an interest in veteran running back this offseason to endorse Miles Sanders, especially Carlos Hyde, who signed with the Seahawks, and Devonta Freeman, who remains a free agent. It was also speculated that McCoy could be on the team’s radar, because they have shown interest in him in recent years.

Instead, McCoy, 32, will join “All-The-Hill All Stars” in Tampa Bay. Will do the least veteran.

Perhaps McCoy’s minimum contract for veterans will help Freeman see that a good contract is not being fulfilled, and his asking price will drop to minimum levels for veterans?

Nigel Bradham signs with the saints

Bradham was a consistent linebacker for three tries in Jim Schwartz’s scheme, but one that didn’t make many welcome plays. In four years in Philadelphia, Bradham had only 2 INT, 3 forced fumbles and 5 sacks.

His best season by far was in 2017, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. HThis game fell in 2018 and 2019, particularly in 2019, when he also missed four games with an ankle injury, and the Eagles seemed to have no interest in bringing him back.

The Eagles play Saints Week 14. It will be interesting to see if Bradham is getting considerable playing time at the end of the season and, if so, how the Eagles will attack him.

Carson Wentz confirms that it is more robust

On Tuesday, the Eagles posted a video of Wentz arriving at the team’s facility, with many commenting that Wentz may have done a bench press or two during the offseason.

Last offseason, Wentz showed up for off-season workouts looking slimmer than ever and explained that he had changed his diet. On Thursday, Wentz confirmed that he had indeed been reaching the weights, which is something he would have been doing all along if he was not recovering from an LCA break in 2018 and broke in 2019.

“The last two seasons where I have been dealing with injuries and trying to recover from injuries,” he said. “This offseason I was really able to do it and train a little bit more in the gym. I haven’t gained anything crazy, but I’ve definitely gained some weight, and I feel great about where I am, so I appreciate the compliment.”

On a side note, please don’t try to make “Walk to em em Wentz” a thing.

Giants CB DeAndre Baker and Seahawks CB Quinton Dunbar head to commissioner’s exempt list

In case he missed it, earlier this season, Baker was arrested on four counts of armed robbery and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, while Dunbar was arrested on four counts of armed robbery , stemming from an incident at a home party in May.

A description of the commissioner’s exempt list, via the Giants website:

In accordance with the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, a player who is on the Commissioner’s Exemption List may not practice or attend games, but upon request and with the permission of the club, may be present on the club’s premises. reasonable way for meetings, individual training, therapy and rehabilitation, and other permitted activities other than soccer.

Basically it’s just a way to prevent players from participating in games while the league decides how they’re going to handle these kinds of situations.

Baker was the third of three Giants first-round picks in 2019. The Giants traded fourth and fifth round picks to go from pick 37 to pick 30. They need him to be a good player. As a rookie, Baker played in all 16 games, starting 15, and struggled, to say the least. According to the soccer reference, opposing quarterbacks had a 116.2 quarterback rating when they targeted Baker, completing 54 of 88 pass attempts (61.4%) for 850 yards (9.7 YPA) and 6 touchdowns. His career is not off to a good start.

Meanwhile, Dunbar is a projected starter for the Seahawks, a team that the Eagles have been unable to resolve and that are on their agenda once again in 2020.
