It seems the Eagles will cut 80 players sooner rather than later.
The team announced Sunday that they have given up wide receiver Shelton Gibson, wide receiver Marcus Green, defensive end Daeshon Hall, defensive tackle Albert Huggins and cornerback Tremon Smith. That reduces them to 83 players with camp set to begin on Tuesday.
Unless a team wants to run split squad practice, the rosters must be reduced to 80 players at the start of camp. Those who follow the divided route have until August 16 to reduce that limit.
Gibson spent two years with the Eagles and caught three passes for 59 yards, but failed to get the team out of camp last year. He returned at the end of the season and played in his playoff loss to the Seahawks.
Hall, who was chosen in the Panthers’ third round in 2017, played in 12 games in the past two seasons. Green has no regular season experience, but Huggins played four games for the Eagles last year, and Smith has experience with the Chiefs and Packers since joining the league in 2018.
