Since launching EA Access on Xbox One, the subscription service has adopted new names according to the platform on which you play. With the service now coming to Steam, EA is consolidating everything under one new brand: EA Play.
EA and Origin Access will now simply be EA Play, regardless of whether you subscribe directly to Xbox One, PS4, Steam, or via Origin. Likewise, Origins Access Premier will now be known as EA Play Pro, with no extra word from EA about whether it will advance beyond Origin.
Despite the name change, the basics of each service are the same. EA Play will give you access to a slew of games that will be updated periodically, often with EA’s own titles months after their first release. You also have access to new games before launch, with time-limited trial periods allowing you to keep track of any progress when you purchase the game at a discount. EA Play will still be $ 5 a month, if $ 30 a year.
EA Play Pro will take advantage of Origin Access Premier, allowing subscribers to play new titles without time limits from launch. It’s easy to think of EA Play Pro as EA’s own take on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, for about the same price. EA Play Pro will be $ 15 per month, if $ 100 per year.
EA Play is a brand that the publisher started to establish with its events around E3. This year’s stream is called EA Play Live and presents some of the titles that EA will launch in the rest of the year. EA says it will stick to this naming convention for future events. The name change will take effect from August 18th.
