Johnson first acknowledged his involvement Black Adam in a post in late October 2019, commenting on the concept model for its superhero protagonist, saying, “This project has been with me for over 10 years.”

In an Instagram post of November 2019, he announced the release date for Black Adam, saying: ‘Like most kids growing up, I dreamed of being a superhero. Have cool superpowers, fight for what is good, and always protect the people. It all changed for me when I was 10 years old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN. As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. But, a few years after my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority. Despite my problems, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I could just do things my way. Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a child – my superhero dreams have come true. I’m honored to be part of the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a real pleasure to be, BLACK ADAM. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is that he does not have the sign when the line runs. He’s a rebel, one of a kind superhero who will always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way. Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way. This role is unlike any other I have ever played in my career, and I am thankful for the bone that we will all have together on this journey. “
