A four-star prospect from Potomac, Maryland and the country’s seventh professional-style quarterback in the 2016 class according to the 247Sports Composite, Haskins originally committed to Maryland, but changed his decision to the state of Ohio in January 2016. When he arrived On the Columbus campus, Haskins entered a room full of quarterbacks with Barrett, the returning starter, and backups Stephen Collier and Joe Burrow. Due to depth, Haskins reverted his first year as Buckeye.
Looking ahead to the 2017 season, Haskins and Burrow battled for backup work on Burrow. Haskins won the job, in part due to a hand injury sustained by Burrow just before the start of the year, which turned out to be crucial in the red jersey’s freshman career trajectory. As Barrett’s main backer, Haskins played in eight games, primarily in relief service. He had to enter the annual rivalry game against Michigan in the regular season finale with Scarlet and Gray behind and led his team to a comeback victory at Ann Arbor. For the year, Haskins completed 70.2 percent of his passes, shooting for 565 yards and four touchdowns in a single interception.

According to the Ohio state coaching staff, the two remained nearly uniform during spring practice. But in May 2018, Burrow announced his intentions to transfer from the Buckeye show, opening the door for Haskins to start with Scarlet and Gray.
The 2018 season will be remembered for what Haskins accomplished. The quarterback changed the Ohio state offense, shooting for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns, both marks were the best in the country, just eight interceptions. Once again he completed more than 70 percent of his passes and He also ran for 122 yards and four more scores. Haskins broke almost all Buckeye and Big Ten approval records, including Drew Brees‘conference mark for touchdown passes in one season and Painter Curtis‘s record of air yards in one year. The 50 touchdowns were the most players since Sam Bradford in 2008.
