Dungeons & Dragons announced Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything rulebook

Dungeons & Dragons will be releasing a new book of rules, subclasses, and mechanics this fall, Wizards of the Coast announced Monday. The book, with the title Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, follows in the tradition of 2017s Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, add fresh gameplay options to the existing setting instead of a new setting.

Also please Xanthar’s Manual, Tasha’s Cauldron presents its content with commentary, observations and snark of a narrator character. This time, instead of a driving crime boss with multiple eyes, it is the creator of Tasha’s Hideous Laughter who serves as a guide.

Tasha’s Cauldron will not have new classes, but will instead offer a collection of new subclasses for each published class in 5th edition. These subclasses are all drawn from the extensively play-tested Unearthed Arcana column on the D&D website. There will also be new spells – including at least one designed by Tasha herself – and magical items to sink into your game.

For those behind the scenes, Tasha’s Cauldron will have a section for Dungeon Masters with setting-agnostic puzzles and magical environments. Fans will also see the return of the concept of group patron – characters without players who fund and guide adventurers – from Eberron: Rising from the Last War, but de-Eberron-ed for each institution.

The most important and intriguing announcement about Tasha’s Cauldron is a new and comprehensive set of rules for character creation. Back in June, Wizards of the Coast announced that it was working on tackling the concept of race in D&D. Tasha’s Cauldron offers an alternative set of rules for character linking that will do just that. With these rules, the race of your character will no longer be tied to inherent state increases and capabilities. While the rules for creating characters are still available in 2014’s Player’s manual for anyone who wants to use them, Tasha’s will race and emerge from their 5th edition mechanics. Players will have much more freedom about what their characters can do and who they are.

Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything will be released on November 17, and will feature cover art by Magali Villeneuve. An alternative (and reported Easter egg-full) cover will only be available in stores featuring art by Wylie Beckert.
