Dubious iMac launch rumors dubious by prominent filter

A prominent filter has questioned rumors that an iMac 2020 update will take place this week, suggesting that the product update is more likely to take place in August, albeit without major redesigns.

Over the weekend, a tweet from a relatively unknown filter began to circulate, presenting the claim that Apple was preparing to launch a new iMac “this week.” @Soybeys’ tweet also went further, suggesting that the launch itself could occur earlier in the period, on Monday.

A second tweet from another filter, @Jioriku, joined the iMac rumors by writing “The iMac redesign will not come for this tenth generation Intel update. They are saving it for their own silicon,” referring to Apple Silicon.

Late Sunday, prominent leaker reporter Jon Prosser rejected the claimed release this week with a single word attached to a screenshot from a headline reporting the alleged release: “No.” In a second tweet, Prosser goes on to suggest that it will be later, advising “If you want the new iMac, stay tuned for August.”

While there is a dispute over time, there seems to be a general belief that some form of product launch is underway. On July 19, prominent filtration partner @ L0vetodream suggested that “some products are ready to ship”, without saying exactly what, while in mid-June DigiTimes The report stated that the new iMac and iPad models were slated for launch in the second half of 2020.

Despite being negative about the first of the two tweets, Prosser appears to have endorsed the second, ending one of his tweets with “No redesign.” It seems logical enough to deduce this, as Apple would be expected to retain any major design changes for a major update, such as the introduction of Apple Silicon.

The icons found in an alleged version of iOS 14 in June offered the suggestion that Apple was redesigning the iMac to include a design reminiscent of an iPad Pro, complete with slimmer bezels.
