The second multiformat game has posted mostly comparable results on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, although once again Sony’s system seems to have benefited – at least, until more updates are received on the DIRT5. Right now, in racer image quality mode the PS5 has a higher average resolution and texture filtering, while it sees a significant increase in overall detail at 120 frames-per-second. In fact, the differences are so sharp in the aftermath of the scenario that analysts at Digital Foundry suspect this may be a mistake.
It’s worth noting, while the performance on board on Sony’s new console is mostly a little better, the lack of VRR support means you’ll get a cleaner refresh rate on the Xbox Series X if you have a compatible television. This feature will be added to the PS5 as part of a future firmware update, the company has confirmed.
So, it’s been a good start for the game for multiformat games on the PS5 – especially when Sony’s slightly weaker hardware was expected to get a little worse. Some are pegging the problem at the development environment of the Xbox Series X, which is reportedly less mature than the PlayStation. Anyway, the difference between the two devices is much clearer than they used to be, so we’re not sure how important this is even now.
